Why third party Apple Watch apps don’t support LTE connection? Is there an API problem?

Ok so most of these should be able to use cellular data without any issues. It’s down to the app developers to provide these functionalities.

In comparison let me show you some apps that do support cellular data and way more data hungry than the ones you mentioned.

Streaming apps -
- Spotify
- tune in

Navigation app -
- Citymapper
- Uber

Email client -
- native iOS email client

Messaging app -
- iMessage
- signal
- WhatsApp (I’m not 100% sure as I don’t use it anymore )

As you can see if you can get all these apps working then there’s no reason for any other apps to not be able to support cellular data. So it’s upto the developers to decide which feature they want to provide in the watch app.

Just to clarify, Spotify doesn't stream audio. It simply acts as a remote control for Spotify on your phone.

Are you sure? I thought Spotify started supporting direct streaming from the watch. I haven’t tried myself though.

I was actually so excited when I got my LTE watch. I had the Garmin Venu for a brief time and it syncs with Spotify and you can listen via wifi. So it didn't occur to me that the Apple Watch wouldn't have the same features (or let's say that Spotify didn't make an appropriate app). What a bummer. It still bothers me to be honest.
