So has anyone figured out how to get updated play counts after playing music via the Apple Watch music app? It's really frustrating, as I use the "last played" as a major part of my smart playlists for running music. And what's really strange is the playlist will update on the watch (so songs that I played there will disappear after I play them) but not anywhere else in my Apple universe (phone, computer, etc.)

Has anyone else had this issue?

Don't use :apple:Watch for music but a quick history may help.

When Apple released Match it would not update the Play Count or Play Date except for the first track played in a day unless you are connected to your WiFi. This behavior was passed on to :apple:Music and continues to this day.

So i think I've discovered what the problem is. You have to sync your phone to get the playcounts to update. After I synced my phone, everything showed up as played.

I've synced everything. Unpaired and repaired the watch. It still doesn't work.

do you have your phone set to use the cloud for music? i think it only worked after i turned the cloud off.

See my post #3. This is only a Match/:apple:Music/iCML problem and it is not limited to the :apple:Watch.
I do wish people didn't have to be so insufferable on these forums. You did read my post #1, right? This was a problem I was having with my watch, and I've found a solution. But thanks for chiming in to tell me what my real problem is.

You posted you had a problem when playing :apple:Music/iCML. Then you posted that you 'found a solution' to the problem. However you failed to mention (and didn't realize) that the 'solution' was actually turning off :apple:Music/iCML and directly (iTunes) syncing your music to your iPhone. This doesn't address the underling problem that you first posted about. All you are doing is bypassing the problem by NOT using :apple:Music/iCML for syncing music.

So when you say '...You have to sync your phone to get the playcounts to update....' it was confusing to most people since you didn't originally say that you had cut off :apple:Music/iCML. ;)

I was simply pointing that out so that others who use :apple:Music/iCML would know why they still have the problem.:)

  • Play Count (and Play Date) problem: Sync :apple:Music/iCML (needs to be fixed by Apple)
  • No Play Count problem: Sync using iTunes (no :apple:Music/iCML)
