Apple Watch Only Showing iMessages

I think I was previously able to see all messages on my watch but on my Series 4 I’m only seeing my iMessages. Is there a setting I need to change or is that just how it works?

I am getting both sms and imessage on mine. I don't know what setting would fix it though

Did you do a clean install when upgrading? If so, this will bring in your message conversations, but only the iMessage ones.

I also have this issue that my friends with Android, their notifications dont come across on the watch and I am not alerted. I just happen to see them the next time I am on my phone.

It's annoying.

It was a clean install. Does that mean I would have to delete those conversations to have them start coming over again? I’ve received texts from those people recently.
