Apple Watch S4 Gold questions

Hi,

I want to get the gold version, but have a couple of queries, is the gold on the straps and watch a plating, or does the color run through the metal? If a plating, how durable does it appear to be?

They’re plated and seems to be good enough for day to day use.

Plated for sure. Apple bands are high in quality so I would say the Apple band will last longer and look better longer than what you get on eBay or Amazon.

I don’t know about the aluminum model but the stainless steel watch is not gold plated. It’s achieved through a PVD process.

The PVD process is a coating. It's durable but can be scratched and will show the bare metal below. Can't be buffed out. Not sure how tough the coating is. It's similar to the gold coating on the x-series phones in terms of durability.

Thanks for the replies. Much as I like the Gold color, and I don’t appear to have scratched my S0 SS watch and strap, I think I will opt for the S4 in SS so I can buff out any damage, should it occur.
