I got an Apple Watch SE last December. Dumb, I didn’t pick up AppleCare.

About a week ago I had taken it off and left it on my bed. When I came back it had a black screen and Apple logo. I thought it automatically updated. I don’t think that happend.

The Apple logo would go off, come back on (felt it was restarting) and it continued to do this, I’m assuming all night. I stuck it in a drawer because it was bright and it didn’t seem like it was charging.

When I woke up the next morning, a button press gave me the red electric bolt. When I placed it on the charger it turned green but didn’t show it was charging. After about 30 minutes it got very hot.

The Digital Crown cover broke off about a month ago. I don’t know if that would be related. I’m planning to call or take it in to an Apple Store. The nearest one is 2 hours away but it’ll be a nice little road trip.

Any suggestions? If they replace it, should I trade it in for the 7 series?

I believe it should still have a one year warranty.

I may be mistaken, but you might want to check.

Apple Watch has one year warranty. Just go to Apple Store and let the genius looks at it.

So it appears to have been in Power Reserve Mode. I never use that, 99.99% sure I didn’t turn it on and the battery wasn’t low. But I was trying it out on an older Apple Watch and thought I’d give it a try.

I still might take it in. I tried holding down buttons the other day and it wasn’t doing anything. I just don’t want an issue coming up in a few months when AppleCare is expired.

I have to take it in…

At least you got it solved. Standard warranty Should cover it.

Was it an automatic update that caused it?

I initiated the update. It started right when it charged to 50%. Maybe that was the issue, assuming the original post in this thread had a hardware problem.
