First off … it was only a few weeks ago that I learned that iMore had gone kaput. No idea how long ago that happened, but that’ll give you some idea of how long it’s been since I visited an Apple forum for anything, which itself seems strange since I have almost everything Apple in the house. I had almost forgotten that I joined this one some time ago, but now you’re all blessed (cursed?) once again with my timeless presence.

So with those pleasantries out of the way, here we go. I’ve been an Apple Watch user for about four years, I guess, not realizing my Series 6 watch was actually that old already. It’s been great, though I only use a tiny fraction of what it’s capable of. But battery life has been good (can go over a day and a half between charges), and zero issues, save one foul behaving OS upgrade. Anyway, I made the mistake of checking out what’s new, exciting and cheap in Amazon Prime days, really having no intention of buying anything, especially not a new watch. Until I saw the Series 10 and did some checking on improvements and enhancements since Series 6. Long story short, it ve got two 46mm’s on the way, one for me and one for my much better half. She uses hers much more extensively than I do, so it just made sense. They should be here tomorrow, and then the transitioning fun will begin. I’ve upgraded iPhones, iPads, and a Mac Mini before, but these will be my first Apple Watches. If things stay true to form, I expect things will go smoothly. So, more to come once that’s all wrapped up.

In the mean time, hello to my long lost but not forgotten friends from iMore!

Hey there @sleepngbear! I remember you from iMore. Unfortunately the site closed down on 11/1/24. I’ve kept a low profile here with only reading and no posting until now when I saw a familiar name. Congrats on both your Apple Watch Series 10 on the way. You’ll enjoy the upgrade. Great to see you here!

In the mean time, hello to my long lost but not forgotten friends from iMore!
Enjoy your new Apple watch Series 10 purchase. I upgraded from a Series 5 to 10 and am very happy. Like my new watch very much and is a fantastic upgrade from the earlier Series 5.

Watches arrived! Just finished setting up my wife’s, did mine earlier today. Just one hiccup on mine, it hung up on the ‘connecting new Apple watch’ step and I had to cancel out of the pair, reboot my phone and start the pair & restore all over. Apparently it’s not unheard of, because Google slapped up the solution before I was done asking the question. Just added a few extra minutes to the whole process, otherwise it was painless. New watch feels and looks great. I never thought the Series 6 felt bulky, but the 10 just feels better. For the increase in display size, there’s barely a difference in the physical size, which I and my old eyes are very happy about. Now my stepdaughter and her husband get the still very well functioning hand-me-downs. 😆

I recently upgraded from Series 3 (grey aluminum, large) to Series 10 (black aluminum, large). The 3 was my first AW, and I kept not upgrading because I had simple demands of it—basically just notifications, timers/alarms via Siri, and Apple Pay—and the Series 3 delivered. I was tempted to upgrade for the tap gesture, but what pushed me over the edge was the flick gesture and realizing my Series 3 didn’t have a compass function.
So I got the 10 expecting to be not too impressed (I’m a very practical person and generally see devices as tools), but man this thing is super nice. I don’t know exactly why, but I’m enjoying it much more than I did my Series 3 even when it was new and even though it was my first smart watch. I agree it feels much better to wear for some reason, even though it has a larger screen/body, I’m guessing because it got thinner. I almost got the smaller version, but I’m glad I didn’t, it doesn’t feel too large at all and the larger screen is appreciated—as is the always-on display, longer battery life, better water resistance, and faster response time. The always-on display convinced me switch to a better-looking more traditional round watch face with hands. With the Series 3 having a black screen 99% of the time, I didn’t care much what the watch face looked like so I just chose it based on what information it showed. Now the style matters much more because it’s always showing, and I really like how it looks now as the face I chose looks more like a traditional watch instead of a tech-y screen. Although individually none of these are actually game-changers for me, collectively they make me really appreciate the upgrade.
I still have to get used to the tap feature (and the incoming flick feature), and I’m sure there are other improvements I’m not aware of yet, but I’m very very surprised how much I like this thing so far. My Series 3 was just a tool for me, this is more than a tool for some reason. I’m not generally into watches, and really dislike wearing them more than I have to, basically only when I’m out. That was how I wore my Series 3 even when I first got it. But with the 10, I find myself wearing it around at home sometimes too lol.

Sort of in the same boat. We had the original SE (which came out when the Series 6 did). In our case the batteries were down to 75% capacity. Had to leave them to charge all night, so it was time to upgrade in order to have them last all night and analyze our sleep again. The Prime Days deals got us to make the upgrade as well. I turned off the always-on display to save battery, my SO still has hers on. If I'm dressed up I might turn always-on display back on for the night while using a simple face like Color with an analog face. Liking the upgrade so far and still getting used to some of the new features.
