I have the series 10 with a 16 pro max phone. I recently noticed I was not getting any notifications on my watch. After playing around with it for a while the only way I could get notifications on the watch was to turn off wrist detection. This is not an acceptable fix. I need the wrist detection on as I have a heart condition and need the passive heart monitoring which only works with wrist detection on. Apple support is investigating but has no answer or fix right now. Any suggestions or fixes out there.

Are you wearing it snugly on your wrist? If it’s too loose, and wrist detection is on, then the watch will lock when it sags too far from your wrist, and then you won’t get notifications (as a security measure, since it thinks you’re not wearing it).

Yes, I've been through all that. I have an older watch and it does the same when I install it! That's why I think its my phone!

Or is the phone unlocked the majority of the time? Notifications will only go to the Watch when the phone is locked. It's an either or proposition.

If your iPhone is locked or asleep, you get notifications on your Apple Watch, unless your Apple Watch is locked.

My phone is usually just sitting on a table not being used most of the time, even powering the phone off does nothing. When I power it back on messages and notifications appear on the phone!

What are your notification settings?
Do you have “mirror iPhone alerts” turned on for each app?

Yes, it appears its a malfunction of the wrist detection software on the phone because I have two apple watches and it does the same on both. Turn off wrist detection and notifications happen, turn it on and they stop.

There is no wrist detection SW on the phone for all I know, that’s done in the watch.
Do you have auto switch turned on?

Have you rebooted both watch and phone?

Same here.
Iphone 16 Pro and series 10 watch.
Watch never receives notificatons (Messages).
TRIED every possible fix. unpair, paired as new, old, as new set up, from backup.

NUMEROUS resets.

Been told a KNOWN issue and apple has not responded.
You are wasting your time, sad to say.

it's really disturbing we purchase new products (expensive products) and apple doesn't see the need to support their products. Should never happen.

i've really wrestled with moving to android b/c of this issue.
Really sorry to have bought 16 and series 10 watch.

Did you set it up as new or restore from backup?
See below . Same for me. Tried every possible scenario.

So you receive notifications other than messages? Pls clarify.

So you talked to Apple support and they said it’s a known issue?

If could be wrong but I think this thread is the only one here on MR with this issue

When apple support said it was a known issue did they give you any hint at a date it might be fixed? Im having the same issues as you and taken all the same steps. Apple support is supposed to be calling me tomorrow with information. I hope they have an answer and just dont say its a known issue. I just dont want my warranty to run out and the things not work.

set it up as new, several times!
Seems like you tried everything I can think of. Keep working with Apple support.
If you have an Apple Store nearby, I’d make an appointment, they should be able to look up your support log and id see if you can reproduce with a different watch or phone

I already put my old apple watch on a few days ago and it did the same thing. Thats why I thought it might be the phone and not the watch, but everyone says its the watch. The frustrating part is when I click off wrist detection, everything works, but I lose the passive heart monitoring which I use since I have a heart condition.

Tats on the wrist? AW has always had issues with that. It's better today but can be finicky.

And the funny pat is I'll get some notification but not all and its sporadic at best. I get my Alexa, Ring Camera and activity rings bot email and texts are a no go

I have T-Mobile cellular service and when I took the watch in to help resolve my issues; 2 employees there instantly said, we can't help. We've seen numerous occurrences of this with the watch and iphone.

Not of any real help here but got my AW10 a couple of days ago and no issues with wrist detection, getting Notifications. But does seem to point to the suspicion here of it's iPhone 16s with problems and I've got a 13 Mini.

New data point, and did not test with wrist detection, just want to post this while fresh in my mind…

Had my 13 Mini and AW10 in a Focus mode pretty much all day yesterday. The Focus is setup to receive Time Sensitive Notifications and allow family to break through. Watch was not getting any alerts from Reminders, Calendar, or Health. Phone was locked and in my pocket so should have got buzzes on the Watch.

Ran some test just now and I was not imagining lack of alerts when Focus on.

Watch alerts set to mirror phone, phone Calendar, Reminders, Health have Time Sensitive turned on in Notifications. The Focus has Allow Time Sensitive enabled. If I add these apps to the Focus, Watch buzzes.

No Focus on, Watch buzzes.

Latest OS on both devices.

So something is not quite right. Will implement the hack on some of my other Focuses as bit scary that might not get Health alerts.

And will dig around here and interwebs to see if others have run into this and have a fix.

(ADD: was using an SE1, which worked fine, until a few days ago when my 10 arrived from Amazon)
