Apple's upcoming Watch Series 11 will retain the same design as its predecessor but include a new screen with increased maximum brightness, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Apple also plans to shuffle its color and band offerings for the new model, although specific details weren't disclosed beyond Apple's intention to address reports of chipping issues with the Jet Black color offered as part of the Series 10.

The Series 11 represents a more modest update compared to last year's Series 10, which Apple internally considered a wholesale redesign despite appearing similar to previous generations.

Beyond the display improvements, rumors suggest the Series 11 will include a MediaTek modem supporting 5G RedCap for wearables and a new S11 chip. There have been rumors about the model potentially including blood pressure monitoring for hypertension detection, but Gurman doesn't seem to think the feature is ready for prime time.

Apple is expected to unveil the Watch Series 11 at its "Awe dropping" event on Tuesday, September 9, with pre-orders likely starting September 12 following by product launches on September 19.

For what it’s worth, my Jet Black watch is looking great after a year, no chips or marks.

I wonder what is causing it for some and not others?

My brother has the Jet Black 10, and six months in, the back is pitted as hell, and some on the left, non-button, side.

Mine has a tiny chip on the edge of the band slot. It’s been there since I opened the box, but I didn’t exchange it because it’s really small and only noticeable if you’re looking for it. On the underside there are a few scratches, but overall it really holds up well (bought on release day). Still, if I had the choice, I’d go for the old aluminum version (in true black, not the Midnight Black). The Jet Black looks a bit like glossy plastic.

No one with a 10 should be upgading.
I traded in my Series 8 for the Series 10 because I wanted the sleep apnea feature. The Apple Store employee was actually like, “Do you really want to do this? Do you have too much money? You do you, I guess.” I’ve never met anyone there who tried to down-sell me before. Some of them are brutally honest there if nobody is listening/watching.

Without blood pressure monitoring this year's Apple Watch Series is very, very, very blah. Even the Ultra 3 which looks like a bigger upgrade is just catching up to Series 10 screen standards from last year. I really hope the BP monitoring is delivered this year because these watch updates are bad otherwise...

I like how my AW S10 jet black blends into the screen.

The only issue I've had is with the crown being more difficult to turn partly because of how low the watch sits on the wrist now. But even when the crown doesn't touch my wrist, it's not as smooth as the crowns on my S5, S7 and S9.

Agreed on the tougher crown turning. I’ve found if I put my thumb on the bottom left of the screen that slightly raises the upper right side, allowing for a smoother crown rotation.

I tried angling my wrist down to raise the height an even then I can feel it sticking. The older models had a smoother operation. And only my S5 was SS, the others have been Al but even the past Al models had a more substantial feeling. I hope they fix this on the S11.

Last year I replaced an old S4 with a Titanium S10 and through multiple promotional Apple gift cards I got the price down to 500 bucks from roughly a grand on launch day. Seeing how a Series 9 is currently worth "up to $150" for trade in I am sure it will make absolutely no sense to replace my one year old S10 with a new one next week.

The real issue to me isn't even that. Unfortunately due to how close it is to the wrist now it keeps pressing the crown occasionally entering the menu and scrolling around on its own. The furthest it got was when it replied to some message with auto-suggested nonsense like "thanks so much!" whilst I was doing gardening work and couldn't even see the display let alone type any replies.

Sometimes I find it sitting on a contact screen one button away from calling someone on Facetime, sometimes I find the display had somehow ghost touched a complication and opened the calendar or the messages overview. This has not happened once on my old S4 and it's quite annoying that Apple didn't bother to fix that. Like with all their neural and Intelligence nonsense why can't the AW know when I have raised my wrist to use it and when my arm makes big movements from walking around or gardening and it should be obvious from the accelerometer data alone that I couldn't possibly be using the watch.

Even if that was fixed on the S11 I wouldn't be willing to spend money to fix an issue that had no business occuring on an Apple Watch in the first place.

I scratched through a tiny bit of the jet black finish so I can now see a very small dot of the silver aluminium underneath, but this was completely my fault ( phone fell from chest height onto some rough concrete by the edge of a swimming pool (ouch)). Other that than, I've been impressed with the durability of the finish - I'm pretty rough on devices, I end up banging the watch against things and I do a bit of outdoor hiking through forests and rocky areas (some clambering and climbing), etc. and the phone still looks great after almost a year of my abuse of it.

I wonder if the finish is less durable on some production runs than on others.

Same. Coming from the Series 7 that looked like **** after a month, the jet black finish on my series 10 is probably one of my favorite features. It still looks like new and I'm not using any watch covers or anything.

As somebody who's been stubbornly holding off on an Apple Watch purchase for nearly 5 months (I know how ridiculous it is; half of it was just to wait for the hell of it), I'm glad to see the latest exciting rumor of new colors, as if I weren't gunning for a silver one anyways! 😹
