I know nothing about the Apple watch but possibly considering one but what is the difference between the SS vs the aluminum, is one lighter in feel or is this all about durability, scratches, dents, etc.. That's a big difference in money.

you can easily compare the aluminum (lower cost) to the Stainless steel (higher cost) on the Apple website or in any number of threads in this forum. There's also an even more expensive Edition watch made from ceramic that is >$1000

What I would suggest, is visit a retailer or an Apple store, and get hands-on with the Apple Watch to see what you like. The aluminum model is fairly light and has a display similar to the iPhone. The stainless model has the sapphire display, which is highly scratch resistant, but weighs approximately 40% more than the aluminum model.
The Most popular model is the aluminum, because the price point and availability.
