Recently my Apple Watch 3 has been warning me that it is running out of memory and I can’t figure out what is using the storage memory. I removed photos (I think two) that were stored on it as well as a few apps. I’m pretty much down to just the core apps Apple includes and the OS but the memory usage hasn’t really changed. Any thoughts? Here is a screenshot of the memory usage.

As a reference point, I have a 16GB Series 3, and with similar usage (very few non-core apps), my watch says 4.7GB is used.

How active are you? I wonder if the usage is fitness tracking my walks and exercise routines. I walk my dog two or three times a day and have about an hour of back excercises a day. In addition, in previous summers I did many hikes with my dog Elle but we are only doing the walks this summer.

Edit - but one would think that is included in the Activity category.

Are you on the latest available update that is applicable for the watch? If so, I would assume that the space is used for cache that accumulated over the years. I am unsure how realistic these days is to unpair and re-pair Series 3, but that would be next step.

could be a watchOS update package that wasn't removed? don't know how to clean those up though ;(

I am On watchOS 8.8.1 which appears to be the latest version for my watch

Hmm, that makes sense but I also don’t know how to clean up something like that.

well, I assume you have rebooted your watch sine the last update? if not, do that and see what happens.
Else, a un-pair/re-pair as suggested above might do it, but, tbh, I'd be careful with an old watch and old watchOS

I recall rebooting it a week or so ago when the warnings started popping up but I’m also rebooting it as I type this just to be sure. I’m a bit worried about un-pairing/re-pairing as I’m 58 days away from the 2500 move goals award and I don’t want to mess that up. It would be a bummer to have to start over on that. Two thousand five hundred move goal days is a bit over 6.8 years of exceeding move goals.

Update. After the reboot I have a little more space. I’m at 7.4 GB of 8 GB vs the original 7.8 of 8 GB

Cool, give a day or two and reboot again…

And I can relate to your move goal concern, I’m at I think 3,178 streak, wish Apple would give us that in years, months, days format ;)

Wow and I thought I was doing good at 2,442 streak! You are over two years ahead of me.
