I knocked my Apple Watch Series 4 off a window sill on to a tiled floor, it landed face down so it’s cracked and the sides are all shattered. Apple are charging £374 for an out of warranty repair. The next appointment isn’t for a week, which is understandable with what’s going on, does anyone know whether they just replace the screen or if it’s a replacement Watch? I can’t find anything on their website regarding charges for a new screen so I assume they just replace it. Has anyone had theirs done?

Honestly, if it was me, I’d just replace it. With new watches possibly coming soon, the series 5 will likely go on sale.

It’s the SS model, I couldn’t justify buying a new one, If this hadn’t happened I wouldn’t even be thinking of getting a new one, as much as I’d like the always on display of the 5

I just bought the aluminum version of the series 5 for $299 on walmart.com. I couldn’t pass it up. Of course, I only had the aluminum anyway.

I feel like for that money, I’d likely replace with an aluminum for now (it’s likely cheaper) and buy another SS down the road.

That’s a pretty good deal.. I think after having the s0 aluminium for a few years I wanted the look and feel of the SS model. My home insurance covers the cost for the OOW repair and it’s only £100 excess so I’m thinking it’s worth it for that. Just not sure whether they can replace the screen or if they’ll replace the whole watch

When you say the sides are all shattered, I assume you mean the screen. 374 GBP to replace the screen cannot make sense in anyone's world. How does Apple get away with this highway robbery? I guess their approach/scam is to charge such a ridiculous amount that 99% of the customers/victims opt to purchase a new watch.

just the screen is damaged, the casing is perfect. It mightn’t be that much, it’s just I can’t find the price for a screen repair on the site

Oh well that’s awesome then. I’d likely pay the difference and do that. I can’t speak to whether they’ll repair or replace though, but my guess is replace - I feel like that’s what they do most of the time, then they probably repair and sell as refurbished.

And yeah that stainless is nice! I’m toying with getting one on my next AW, but I have to see what they weigh. I had one a few years ago, and it pressed in a weird spot on my arm, probably a nerve. That little extra weight/thickness made a difference for whatever reason, and I have never tried the stainless again.

I feel like the strap makes a difference with that kind of thing, I got the Milanese Loop and it doesn’t feel as comfortable as the basic sports strap

Apple does it both ways (Actually, Apple doesn’t repair it, a third party repair does that’s trained on the Watch repair) . They will replace the display if the part is readily available or if it’s a time constraint where the repair depot is backlogged, they’ll just issue a replacement device for you for exact model that you have.

it’s a replacement device, they will inform you of that, you’ll be issued a new serial number to replace your pre-existing serial number on the OG watch.

It’s been a while since I’ve had a repair/replacement, last time it was an iPhone and they just replaced it there and then, so with the Apple Watch they could send it off to a 3rd party for repair?

The Apple Watch is not repaired in store, they don’t physically repair any Apple watches at Apple stores and they do not carry replacement Apple Watches in store (That’s how it’s always been). The watches are shipped to a repair Depot in Kentucky and from there, they are shipped to region points where they send the customer the replacement watch. If I had to guess, I think Apple will probably just replace your watch with a refurbished model versus replacing the display, but it depends if there’s any internal damage or not either.

I would consider a new watch just due to the fact it will cost so much for the repair. Sell your current watch as is to help offset the cost. I'm sure even with a shattered screen it is worth something.
