My Apple watch activity app shows more steps than the iphone health app. The watch is more accurate as I don't always have the phone with me. I'm assuming this is because the phone is only counting steps from the phone accelerometer. How can I make the phone health app sync and count steps from the watch only? This is especially odd as the three ring, move, exercise and stand data are synced and matched between the two devices, why not the step count as well?

On your iPhone:
1) open Health
2) “Health Data” - “Activity” - “steps”
3) swipe down to ‘data sources & access’
Make sure your watch is the top source. If not, “Edit” and drag your watch up, the. “Done”.

My understanding, id Phone or other device is higher than watch and there are overlapping time stamps for activity, the phone (other) wins. And if your walking and swinging your watch arm but staring at phone in other hand - your going to notice missing Steps.

My wife recently got a Apple Watch, and notice Health steps where significantly lower. Moving watch to the top fixed this for her.
