it's a tale as old as time. You run a run, slide to the right and select "Done". You're super hype to see it on Strava (because if it's not on there, it didn't happen). You go do the convoluted process of uploading the run to Strava only to see the worst sight you've ever seen (and that's saying something because you recently finished the Jeffrey Dahmer "documentary" on Netflix) "There is no location data on this run"

You go through the five stages of grief in the span of three seconds, you feel your life flash before your eyes, and you feel an insatiable urge to smash your Apple Watch: your sapphire glass-ensconced temptress.

I cannot tell you how many times this has happened to me and I'm sick of it. I can't trust my watch at all anymore to track my runs. It's gotten to the point where I double fist with my Apple Watch and my Garmin because there's no rhyme or reason to when my watch won't record.

This has happened many times on my Series 5 SS, and has just happened for the first time on my S7 SS (that I've had for like two weeks). I've been on the latest software. I have the permissions accepted. I contacted Apple and they are like "Oh I've never heard of this before, you'll need to call us 👉👈🥺" I don't know what to do at this point, but I've seen other people have this problem and it's resolved for them.

Does anyone have any experience with this who has successfully fixed it? Thank you so much :)

Tl;dr: Despite verifying permissions and using the latest software on two different watches, my Apple Watch routinely (but not every time) decides not to record my route on runs. I know this has been a big problem for years and people say they've fixed it, how did you correct it, and has it happened again?

I use the native workout app and I just do the normal upload process to Strava: Applications, services, and devices > Health > and then import each activity individually. That part doesn't matter though because when you look at your workout in the "Fitness" app on the phone, you can see it only recorded the start point and none of the route, so it's not a Strava problem.

I have noticed that this stuff doesn't happen when I use other apps (I've used Strava and run outdoors) but I don't like the interfaces and I tend to prefer using the native Apple apps when I can.

Interesting. I have had it on occasion that the map route doesn't upload but the data has logged correctly (time/distance etc.) I think I just closed the fitness app and re-opened and it was solved. I guess maybe re-pair or as a last resort scrub the watch and start fresh, if it still acts up then probably a hardware issue?
