Currently I have an Imac and android phone. was looking into getting an apple watch. Is it possible to use it at all without an iphone? I dont mind not being compatible with the android since its only a temporary phone but can i still activate it and use with the imac?

thanks

No, an iPhone is required to set up and use the watch.

Cellular models allow Family Setup for those that might not have an iPhone, but it still does require someone in your family to have an iPhone. Some features are limited in this mode as well.

The best you can do is to get a cheap second-hand iPhone 8.

The problem, long-term, is however, that you’ll always need an iPhone which can run the latest version of iOS if you want to run the latest version of watchOS. In other words, if iOS 17 drops support for the iPhone 8, you wouldn’t be able to update to watchOS 17 either. You would need to get an iPhone XR then…

So using an Apple Watch without an iPhone isn’t really practical.
