I have not seen any Apple Watches. I have seen ALOT of Garmins and a few Fit-Bits.

Ditto on the gymnastics coach.

Simone Manuel was wearing a SGS w/ WSB in her interview with Hannah Storm. That may have been recorded pre-Rio though.

I would expect Garmin to be the most popular choice for serious athletes. The Apple Watch isn't really designed to compete in that product category.

Coming from an Apple Watch owner, no, the Apple Watch would not be the appropriate device for an Olympian athlete. The Apple Watch is more intended as an in between for a notification device and a basic health Watch at this point. More of a heart rate monitoring device at best with goal settings.

Garmin's are more intended for more physical fitness options.

Why would there be no reception in Rio?
I'm in Rio and the 4g coverage here is very good.

Most people traveling abroad turn it off in order to avoid expensive international charges, and athletes are no exception (most of them aren't weathly and just get by). I wasn't actually saying there is no reception in Rio.

You clearly said no reception in RIO, we are expected to read expensive reception.

Just curious if anyone has seen any athletes wearing an Apple Watch?
I've seen tons of the coaches and support staff wearing Apple Watches. I'm not sure why any of the competitors would be wearing during the actual games though. I'm sure plenty of them wear Apple Watches behind the scenes, but remember that the Olympics at this point is more of a advertising platform so I'm sure there are clauses regarding what athletes are allowed to wear during actual competition.

No reception in Rio = no iPhone = little use of the AW.

Home might be a different story.
You're aware of how much infrastructure building goes on for the Olympic village right? You think while they were laying fiber and every other type of utility they didn't bother setting up cell towers??

I've seen them on coaches, families, and announcers, but not on athletes. No notable watches except for the Richard Mille mentioned earlier.

Denise Lewis and Paula Radcliffe both seem to be wearing one when presenting for the BBC. I think I saw a cycling coach wearing one too in the velodrome.

Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake also seemed to be wearing one during his 200m heat.

limited edition USA nylon watch band.

Speaking of which, here is Ryan Lochte wearing his before his escape.

Looks pretty cool these limited bands

Agreed. The woven nylon band makes a lot of good marketing opportunities possible since they can produce some special themed bands for big events. The nylon band is priced just low enough to encourage people to buy limited release collectible bands. It's the kind of marketing that can have a surprisingly strong impact. Even if someone doesn't like the look of the special edition band, it certainly makes them notice what it is attached to.

Did Apple produce this Ryan Lochte photo? It certainly looks like an ad for Apple or Ralph Lauren. Talk about product placement!
