Apple has expanded its sleep apnea notification feature to Apple Watch users in South Korea, the company announced today.

Sleep apnea is a condition in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep, often leading to poor rest. The Apple Watch detects signs of the disorder by using its accelerometer to track subtle wrist movements associated with irregular breathing patterns. When these disturbances occur repeatedly across several nights, the watch can flag a potential case of sleep apnea.

The feature is supported on the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch Ultra 3, and is available in more than 150 countries worldwide. To receive an initial reading, users need to wear the watch consistently for several nights, although nightly breathing disturbances are logged in the iPhone's Health app.

Apple also provides a full list of Apple Watch feature availability on its website.

Anyone else having trouble loading/reading the site today? Not sure if some html went haywire or if it’s software related, as I have the same issue on Anker

Haven’t had any luck getting this working in Canada, whether I set a sleep schedule or not. Track Sleep is on. I check every few weeks but it just shows a message at the bottom saying “Sleep apnea notifications are not available on your Apple Watch”.

Apple's support page only says
  • Sleep must be set up with Track Sleep with Apple Watch turned on.
  • You must wear your Apple Watch to sleep for a minimum of 10 nights over a 30 day period. Your data will be analyzed every 30 days.

Curious how many people sleep wearing their iWatch. Night is when I charge mine as it would be dead by morning otherwise. Battery life is still by far my biggest complaint.

That thing is useless. I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea, I did a study, and after a year of wearing Apple Watch Ultra 2 while sleeping, it never, ever mentioned anything abut it.

Good to see another region being supported. Unfortunately my region is still not supported. Looks like it will still take some time to get approval from appropriate authorities.
