I've found a few threads around the web about this regarding the AW Ultra 1 but I'm curious if anyone else has this situation. I just upgrade from AW S5 to Ultra 2, and the AOD is so dim in medium-lit areas that it's nearly useless for me. My Series 5 is literally more readable than this brand new watch.

If i shine my phones flashlight at it, it lights up enough to see it. When i raise to wake, it's nice and bright, and I have the brightness all the way up. But I honestly kind of hate the always on display on this watch so much that I'm debating whether or not I want to keep it.

Has this been noticeable to anyone else, and have you found any solutions?

Yes, big time. I've been commenting on this for a few days.
I'm really disappointed because otherwise I like the watch, but it's aesthetically terrible and impractical. I don't want a Series 9 because it looks like my Series 5 but with more display/less bezels. Otherwise, the feature differences over 5 years have been mediocre at best. That's why I went with the Ultra 2.

I’m looking at mine right now and I don’t see much of a problem that one cannot see it. It’s not as bright of course that’s to be expected but having it in the dark room looks OK to me. And a semi lighted room, It looks OK as well. my Apple Watch 7 shows about the same thing. Tried taking a picture using my camera with AOD, and no can do. Shows it bright as if AOD wasn’t on at all.

Way too dim for me at night. The brightness slider is all the way to the right, but display is so dim as to be nearly impossible to read.

Even moving the slider down doesn't dim it more and moving it back up doesn't make it brighter.

Why can't Apple let me decide how bright I want the screen?

I really haven’t noticed this issue at night, but i feel like the sensor that is supposed to tell the watch whether to be dim or bright may not be working correctly because of software. Sometimes I’ll be sitting on my couch in the living room and it’s barely visible but should be bright enough to show me the watch face in that particular lighting. Hopefully a future software update will fix this…..very frustrating.

It's a huge problem and barely readable at night. Really hate it auto-dim for no reason. My aging S6 was so much brighter. Please fix it asap.

If you don't send feedback to Apple about the issue nothing will ever change. I already submitted feedback about this issue the other day when I found another thread on the Apple Discussions page.

I also agree. The brightness in a medium dark environment is untestable. Very frustrating. My AWU 1 was never liked this.

A YouTuber said the display now supported a minimum brightness, that was half of last year's model. Maybe that is the problem.

Still something Apple could fix in software of course..
