Alongside the Mac Studio with M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 with a Black Titanium case was also added to Apple's online refurbished store in the U.S. today, for the first time since it was released in September 2024.

The refurbished model costs $679, down from $799 new. It comes with a Black Ocean Band.

Beyond the different case color, the Black Titanium model is the same as the other Apple Watch Ultra 2 models, which first launched in September 2023. Due to Apple's legal battle with medical technology company Masimo, the Blood Oxygen app remains deactivated in the U.S. on all new and refurbished Apple Watch Ultra 2 models.

Apple says it puts refurbished products through "full functionality testing" and a "thorough cleaning process and inspection," and they are covered by Apple's one-year limited warranty and eligible for extended AppleCare+ coverage. In our view, Apple's refurbished products are virtually indistinguishable from brand new ones.

The refurbished Apple Watch Ultra 2 models come in a plainer box, with a fast-charging puck.

I have the original Ultra and I've been really happy with it. I'm a larger person so the size doesn't bother me.

I really like the black case, but I can't justify a new one when my Ultra original is just fine for now.

I like the features of the Ultra, but really need it in a smaller form factor. My wrist cannot handle the girth.

I see these "barely used" for no more than $450, locally, all the time.

Best deal, by far, is to grab something along those lines.
First one explains the second, these are just too big for many people. Myself included.

I also grew sick of having to charge these watches every day. After a period of reset with dumb watches I returned to smart watches with Garmin. My instinct seems to last at least two weeks per charge.

this would be my goto watch, love the color. I have the original Ultra and love it, waiting until the all features are available in the U.S. then I will update my ultra.

Once Series 10 became available, a lot of people dropped the Ultra. Unless you need the siren or multi-day battery life, S10 is enough and fits under shirt cuffs.
I don't need the action button, siren, or extra battery life, but the flat screen is so much easier for me to interact with (complications in corners, etc. ) and see (no glare from curved edges) that I would never want to go back to the normal screen version.

I also agree with those who find it fat and ugly, but I figure nobody will ever want to steal it from me.

I love the S10. I wanted an ultra as an upgrade from the series 4. But I decided to go with the 10 after about a week of wearing the ultra. Couldn’t be happier.

I have really liked my Black Titanium Ultra 2; I was a little bit concerned that the color would make scratches show up more, but it has proven to be just as rugged as my first Ultra and still looks great after months of wear in all sorts of situations.
Literally jumped in here to ask this very question likely due for an upgrade this year if its worth it and really want black but never heard how well the coating holds up.

and then there is the flat screen. which is easier to read, and the better water resistance.
BTW, My U2 fits just nicely under my shirt cuff

There's always a tradeoff. Rounded edges don't catch shirt cuffs as easily. If you plan to scuba dive to 350 ft., get the Ultra. Most people swim and the 150 ft. on S10 is more than enough.

Good to know. But not a huge discount especially when new ones can be bought around $730.

I'd love one of these, but I have awkwardly small wrists and large hands. My larger S8 is already kind of big, and when I was wearing dumb digital watches my favorite was a very small Shark watch. I do want the additional toughness and battery life, but not sure the large watch is worth the tradeoff.

My partner has the titanium ultra and the screen is incredible - big and so clear and bright - if you can bear the heft.

But she never puts on the face with the tactical night mode option. I mean … what ?

"tactical night mode"

I just had to laugh at all the Dad bods w/ their AWUs on...out "storming the local Home Depot at 8:40pm on a Thursday night"

Get out there with your "tactical Honey Do list"

🤣

Same, it’s also annoying that it basically adds zero new functionality, aside from Apple artificially limiting the sleep apnea detection to Ultra 2 at the expense of losing O2 sensing.

I’m waiting until the next generation to update.

“full functionality testing”

So every tested device in the USA failed because this watch isn’t fully functional if the blood oxygen sensor that is on the device doesn’t work? Intentionally or not. If all the sensors don’t work for whatever the reason, the device is not fully functional.

I’ll consider buying another actually fully functional Apple Watch when all sensors work. Not until then. With Apple’s resources, their refusal to pay the license fee so the device is fully functional in the USA is unacceptable and consumers here can and should do better since Apple refuses to deliver a fully functional product because they are cheap. They face the right to be cheap but they don’t have the right to claim a device is fully functional by saying it passed full functional testing when it couldn’t have because part of its functionality in the USA has been intentionally disabled. That’s false advertising.

The flat screen was the biggest difference I noticed. Much better
