Apple today will unveil a third-generation Apple Watch Ultra with a bigger screen, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The reporter has not divulged the size of the new display, but MacRumors independently discovered the new dimensions in a recent iOS 26 beta.

An image made for the new watch was found to have a resolution of 422 x 514 pixels – higher than the current Ultra 2's 410 x 502 panel. The larger resolution suggests Apple has trimmed bezel width to expand the viewing area without altering the watch's overall dimensions.

This should give the Ultra 3 the biggest Apple Watch display yet, enhancing readability and making better use of the rugged design's expansive front surface.

Beyond the new display dimension, the Ultra 3 is expected to get an improved display that brings it in line with the upgrade that last year's Apple Watch Series 10 received. The Series 10 debuted with an LPTO3 OLED always-on Retina display, a step up from the Ultra 2's LTPO2 panel. The upgrade gives the Series 10 a faster refresh rate in always-on mode, making it possible for watch faces to feature a continuously ticking seconds hand.

In addition, Apple introduced a wide-angle OLED on the Series 10, which delivers up to 40% more brightness when viewed off-axis compared to the Ultra's OLED display. We expect the Apple Watch Ultra 3 to inherit the same capability.

Satellite messaging capabilities and 5G connectivity are also expected for the Ultra 3.

Last year, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 received a black titanium case option, but apart from that, the Ultra model has not seen any hardware upgrades since 2023. Apple is expected to unveil the Apple Watch Ultra 3 later today at its "Awe dropping" event, alongside new iPhone 17 models, Apple Watch Series 11 models, and AirPods Pro 3. Stay tuned for all the details.

Think it will for sure have display at least matching the Series 10. Would like to see some new watch faces and hope to see them made available for Series 10 too. Happy with my Series 10 and will not be upgrading.

I remember when I upgraded from an apple watch 4 to an ultra 2. I saw the big black screen and though, wow it's big. As soon as it turned on I noticed the thick black bezels and was disappointed.
I understand the need for metal around the screen to protect the glass since this is a rugged watch but there was no need to have bezels. It seems that the only change now will be the edge to edge screen. The way it was supposed to be.
I will still upgrade because I have the silver ultra 2 and want the black, but I don't expect a major change.

Bigger the better, including screen and bulk. If you are a "watch guy" you appreciate big watches. The normal series watches are kind of girly IMO.

I will be trading in my UW1 for the UW3. Not on launch day though as I will be getting my annual new phone (17PM) and don't want to spend 5 hours in the apple store getting two new devices to talk to each other and restoring back ups. Just too much going on there.

Um no. Im an actual watch guy with a roller and a couple breitlings and my current favorite is an Oris /(new in-house movement) that I use as a daily driver. No watch enthusiast I know wears huge watches. None. Not one. Try to find a huge Patek. The only ‘watch guys’ wearing big watches are those trying to show off $$ and not interested in quality (or it’s a sponsorship deal). Hell, a $3M Grandmaster Chime is smaller than an AW Ultra. A Nautilus (that any watch guy would almost die to have) is a ~40mm case and will run you a cool $100k.

Some innovation would be amazing. Like adding some buttons for those who wish to swim and control it with no issues , for those who hikes and use gloves to compete with garmin. It’s not all about screen size or bezel size or bloody watch faces. I moved to garmin tactic for this very reason. Lack of buttons to control while screen touch is disabled is no 1 for so many athletes I know. I’m shocked how Apple lost all creativity some years ago and all new devices are same same but diferent. Like lets trim the bezel .2 of a mm on CNC mill and order 0.2 mm bigger screen and sell it again as new product and make more money. Ffs so frustrating.
Let’s hope they will surprise me this evening…

Tim won't leave until sales start dropping and stock starts going negative.
They lost 20% of their value in 2025, iPhone sales dropped in almost all core (US/EU/CN) regions, so what're the investors waiting for? If Apple goes down the sink, there's no second Pixar-Coup they can do.

Negative income per quarter..as in actually losing money and not making a profit.

Hardware sales are slowing down for everyone as smartphones have started to plateau, hence why they are pushing into reoccurring services revenue.

Same here, I like a bigger watch, feels less fragile and more rugged.

People might complain about larger watches, but no one forces them to buy one.

144? Isn't it 24 extra pixels?
Unless I'm missing something, I make it 11088 extra pixels. 410x502 is 205820, 422x514 is 216908, the difference between both of them in terms of total pixels is 11088. It's 12 extra in each direction, but it's 12 across by over 400 down the side, similarly extra across the bottom, it's not just a 12x12 grid that's just added on the side somewhere.

You're absolutely right! I was being sarcastic though.
