Hey everyone!

I have noticed that Apple Pay seems a little ropey on my Apple Watch Ultra and wondering if anyone else is seeing the same?

Basically I use my watch to commute to work on the London Underground/Overground, but I'm finding that I'm having to hold the watch much closer to the reader than I used to do with my Series 6 and a lot of the time the first register fails and I have to try again. Similar issues with paying in shops, I have to hold the watch much closer for it to register.

Any feedback appreciated.

Not seeing issues with mine. I got into the habit of turning it around (so the face is under my wrist) a few years ago, makes it easier and I don't have to do arm yoga to hit the terminal sensor.

Making apple pay easier to use was a side effect, I started flipping it when I got in the car to drive and it is muscle memory now.

“Me, neither.” The experience feels exactly the same as it did with my S4. Boarded the LA Metro with a virtual TAP card on the watch without breaking stride, same as in Tokyo this past summer with the S4 and Suica. Retail point-of-service is the same hit-or-miss as it’s always been, with reliability depending entirely on the merchant and their POS system.

Mine is the same as my 6.... I pretty much use my watch to pay for everything these days... tap to pay is very prevalent at least here in NYC. have you tried rebooting the watch? otherwise I would take it to Apple so they can run a diagnostics on it... you never know.

Same, in the U.K. everywhere is contactless pretty much, I cannot remember the last time I actually took out my wallet.

OK, by the sounds of it my hardware must be faulty if I'm having to hold my watch a couple of inches from the reader and then still getting non-reads.

I've just un-paired/re-paired as new, along with a reboot to see if the commute is better on the way home tonight. If not, Apple have already said they'll do a new refund/replacement (rather than AppleCare+)

Did you resolve this? For the past couple of weeks, Apple Pay fails on the first attempt and I have to try again when paying in-person. My transit card has no issues.

My new AWU also has to be held closer to the contactless pads than my old Titanium Series 6, must be the thicker case. I think if you angle the edge slightly down it seems better, but for sure not as easy as previous models.
