Apple today shared a new ad promoting the Apple Watch Series 10, linking it to the tradition of setting New Year's resolutions.

In the spot, Apple explains that the second Friday of January is when most people stop meeting their goals, suggesting that the Apple Watch can provide the necessary motivation to keep going.

"This year, what if a little bit of help on our wrists could help us quit, quitting?" asks the ad, followed by the tagline "motivation on your wrist."

Apple highlights the Apple Watch notifications for closing activity rings and meeting workout goals, along with specific running-focused features such as the option to track pace and get alerts to step it up.

Keep cringing with their new ads. I really just don't care for the ad campaigns they use now and the watch still doesn't have O2 sensing back.

It still has it in places other than the US, and it's still there, just disabled.

I personally don't care anything about the O2 sensor, and haven't in the over 15 years that I've been using GPS watches. It never mattered much for my running.

Do they have a "pause training" option yet? The core issues I ran into were the constant "you were way more active yesterday" alerts (because I'm on a specific training plan to avoid injury), the ridiculous "you ran X last month, lets run X times 2 this month" badge requirements, or just being injured and being told constantly that I needed to get moving when I was injured.

EDIT: They finally added it in the latest WatchOS according to others here.

Yep. Tap the rings and it brings up a “pause rings” option. Super easy.

While overtraining is a thing, there are things called active recovery workouts. I see people make this complaint all the time, yet somehow I am on a current 1,755-day streak and my goal is around 800 active calories. That is my minimum active calories. Normally, it is well over 1,000.

my daughter gave me my apple Watch as a gift, in January 2023.
been using it for almost 2 years.
these two years have been my most active (most workouts), probably ever.
did the Watch achieve this? no. of course not. i achieved it.
did my Watch help me to keep going, giving me data that i used to increase my runs and long distance walks, much like the young woman in the ad?
yes. a definite yes.
i love the freedom (notifications and apple pay). and every data point that it provides.

Congrats to you. My specific issue was recovering from knee surgery and having the watch say I needed to run every day. I couldn't do that.

Does that also stop specific training requirements from coming up for the badges to? I had some crazy requirements when I started running a few years ago that were impossible for me to follow.

Yes. That was in the September OS update.

It's almost as if no one on the Apple Watch team is an actual runner.

How about remapping the buttons so you can simply and stop a run with the press of ONE frickin' button?

None of this awkward two button crown and side button combination on the AW.

You can adjust the goals with a “change goals” button on the same screen after tapping the rings. I don’t know about the badges, I think those are activities that Apple chooses for special occasions. I don’t really worry about the badges, I just find it motivating for me to close my rings each day…and if I don’t, there’s always tomorrow.

You can also swipe right and tap the pause button. That’s how I do it. There’s also the auto-pause function. I’m also swiping in the other direction to pick a song while running, so I’ve gotten used to the gestures. Don’t trip!
