I had my watch connected to my iPhone 7, I sold the 7 when I bought the X.

Now the watch won’t connect to the X. Presumably because it is still “connected” to me 7, even though I wiped the 7 clean when I sold it.

When I try to wipe out and reset the watch it says, “invalid iTunes password.” Even though it never asks me for a password on either my iPhone or watch.

For the last several months my watch can only be used for the “nightstand” feature.

Googled a lot and best I could find was to reset the watch....but as stated above that doesn’t work for me....

Are you sure that "invalid iTunes password" is the EXACT error message it displays? Googling for that exact message yielded only one (incorrect) search result for me.

So you never unpaired the Watch from your 7?

Are you using the same AppleID on your X as you had on your 7?

What happens when you go to Settings -> General -> Reset on the Watch and perform ‘Erase all content and Settings’?

Why not try going to a Apple store and see if they can help you? Worth a shot, instead of continuing to use the watch in nightstand mode.

Yes, the same Apple ID.

I click on “erase all content and settings.” Most of the time it does nothing, it keeps my on the same screen to “erase all content and settings.”

Every once in a while I get an error similar to “invalid password.”

No, I can not say that is the exact phrase.

When I try to reset and erase most of the time the watch does nothing. Other times it states something similar to “invalid password.”

I am trying to get the error to occur again.

Other times it it brings me to the next screen that says, “erase all” but when clicked it does nothing.

Try going to iCloud.com
then settings.
under device list, find your watch. a window will pop-up, in that click the blue X next to the watch.

as long as your watch is in range of your home wifi (or another know wi-fi that you had connected to previously) the watch should be able to talk to apple and clear itself.
