It had a SIM card. Or any other way to connect to the internet independently.

I know it's not very Apple-like and would probably make the device thicker, but imagine if you could go for a run or take a quick trip to buy groceries and took only a watch, but were still able to receive messages, reply them using Siri, make calls, read mails and etc.

That would be a whole lot different right?

The way the Watch is now, whats the point in reading and e-mail in a tiny screen when your phone is inches away?

Cellular connectivity would drain the battery like nobody's business.
 
If that's what your looking for check out the Samsung gear s smart watch. It has its own SIM card and acts alone without a phone. It will also work with a phone. I got mine threw T-Mobile. $14.99 a month for unlimited talk,text and 500mb of data.
