Does anyone have any tips for this? This is the second time it’s happened to me now - I ran a race this morning. I recorded the warmup with my Apple Watch - it went just fine, with a GPS track and HRM readings. After the race, I jogged a cooldown - same thing. Accurate GPS.

But the race (you know, the most important part) just got left off. There’s no HRM chart (which happens sometimes, regardless) but more crucially - no GPS track. When you upload to Strava, there’s no data, either. It was successfully recorded as an ”Outdoor Run,” so the issue wasn’t selecting the right profile, and the race started in the middle of a road in basically the middle of nowhere, so I don’t think it was a GPS lock issue (it even notes where I start, it just doesn’t record any data). Finally, my phone was about a half-mile away in my car, so I don’t think that was the issue, either.

Screenshots/proof, if it’s useful. I appreciate there is an easy answer of “get a Garmin,” but I really like the ability of Apple Watch, and I think that GPS recording is (theoretically) a basic fundamental of the device… maybe it’s user error here?

For reference, this is a Series 7 (41mm, titanium; guessing that isn’t relevant!) running the latest watchOS.

Does this happen to anyone else/can you help?

Thanks!

Not an answer to your question, but I had this happen to me for the first time Friday. I recorded a bike ride & all of the data was correct, but the map started about 25% of the way into the ride. I rode the same route this morning & realized that where it happened, the ride had auto-paused as I waited for a red light to change.

Not sure if auto-pause came on at all. Or maybe you used pause in some capacity during/ immediately before/after the race, but wanted to pass this along as no one else has replied.

I use pause at the very end of my run every day (so I can stop recording without having to swipe the screen, by using the two buttons) and I've never had that issue, but Auto-pause appears to have caused it on the ride.
