Apple Watch's Track Detection feature launched in Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom last week, according to the fitness blog DC Rainmaker. The feature is available on all Apple Watch models running watchOS 9.2 and later.

With Track Detection, the Apple Watch uses an Apple Maps database and GPS to automatically detect when you step on to an outdoor running track. In the Workout app, you can select which lane of the track you are running in and receive more accurate distance measurements and a more precise route map. There is also an option to receive lap alerts that show distance, time, and pace as you complete each lap.

Track Detection first became available in the United States last year. watchOS 9.2 is compatible with the Apple Watch Series 4 and newer.

MY experience with my Ultra and GPS is roughly the same as my iPhone 11 which is disappointing.

When its around tallish buildings the accuracy is bad. And by bad I mean 50 plus feet off. I run roughly the same path most of my runs and there are three specific buildings that it shows me running through.

When my arm is facing open areas and away from the buildings its much more accurate than when my arm of facing the tallish building.

I honestly expected a more accurate GPS compared to my iPhone 11.

This is pretty awesome, but what I really need is for my Apple Watch to detect when I step into a Taco Bell and promptly tell me off before I start gobbling down a Crunchwrap Supreme. 😩🌮
Nice! That could be called the "Food Alarm Detection" (FAD). There will be a list of fast food places you can check off as "banned" places and the Watch will deliver a shock each time you enter the doors of one of those "banned" places. And if that doesn't convince you to leave the premises, it'll dial your Emergency Contact so they can admonish you.

LOL.
