I have two "twin" 2009 4.1 to 5.1 Mac Pros. All features for 5.1 on Mojave appear OK. I now need WiFi and bought two supposedly compatible for 4.1 and 5.1 Apple cards from OWC "Apple 802.11n for Mac Pro/Macbook/MB Pro." Installed each without problems and double checked connection (1,2,3) but neither of these "twins" even sees the card in System Report/WiFi. Tech support not able to help with this.

High Sierra removed kext support for early-2009 Mac Pro AirPort Extreme (BCM94321MC) and Mojave removed support for the second source AirPort Extreme that was made by Atheros and used by Apple on some extremely rare early-2009 and mid-2010 Mac Pros.

Catalina removed support for mid-2010 and mid-2012 Mac Pro AirPort Extremes (BCM94322MC).

High Sierra is the last macOS version that will work with all AirPort Extremes used on 2009 Mac Pros. You have to upgrade to newer models with Mojave (BCM94322MC) or Catalina (BCM94360CD, needs a kit with cables and an adapter).

Apple original BCM94322MC cards are extremely cheap on eBay, around US$ 12.
