Apple wireless keyboard slow detection

After the computer has started I still have to wait 10-20 seconds before I can use my keyboard. Is there any way I can speed this up? Is this even normal?

I press the SPACEBAR repeatedly to prompt the keyboard into action. This works for me.

Same here. Same thing works for the mouse FWIW.

Keyboard along with the Mighty Mouse have a standby option built in to preserve battery life. For example, if you move your Mighty Mouse while it is on standby, won't work until you click it, and then it will come out of standby.

Does changing the device to "favorites" in the bluetooth system preferences change anything? (Make sure it's the first bluetooth device to be connected, or something)

I've also removed some bluetooth devices from that list that are no longer connected anyway, you think this will speed it up a bit?

The same thing happens with the MM, but you just have to click it and wait a second or two and you're off and running.
