When did Apple start selling AppleCare after the original coverage has ended? I guess I missed the memo!! I purchased Series 3 Watch two years ago and the extended Apple Care expired a few days ago. I logged into My Apple Support page and it said my coverage has indeed expired. I also saw a link to Renew the coverage. I have not known Apple to provide coverage after the original coverage has ended. I thought it was a glitch; so, I tried to purchase. It went through and I received a proof of coverage email. I am paying $2.70 per month. I doubt if I will have any problems in the near future. However, a year from now or later I might. How long will Apple allow me to cover the watch? It says complete hardware coverage is provided.

Are iPhones also eligible for this type of coverage?

Good to know... I returned a series 5 watch based on the reported software issues and the fact the my current watch works fine. I'll have to consider just renewing coverage next year.

Yes you are right. I'm guessing if you purchase it immediately after your original ends you will be eligible? Also I bet accidental damage is not coverage. I will need to read exactly what is covered and what is not.

Unless I overlooked it, I didn't see a choice to pay for the coverage annually. The only choice was a monthly payment. They probably didn't offer an annual payment so that they can end the program for everyone if this turns out to be to costly for Apple. That was a smart move.

Apple Care, at least for the watches, can be paid for up front for the usual two years, or $3.99 (I think) per month for as long as you care to keep it... including beyond two years. For the watches, there's still a 2-incident limit for accidental damage, however.

I haven't looked to see if same deal is available for phones.

Where on Apple's website did you see this information? Thanks!

Exactly it’s money on the table. I bought Apple care plus for my titanium series 5 and Apple care plus is active on a monthly basis and it can continue until supplies first repair end. Therefore it can continue indefinitely. This brings in money for those who don’t want to upgrade their devices yearly that cost $1000 and hold on to it for years.

Definitely nice to be able to renew it on the watch as most keep them longer. As for the iPhone, many trade theirs after 1-2 years, so not so helpful.

When you think about it, $2.49 a month from millions of people is a hell-of-a-lot money!

Agreed they have millions of pretty loyal customers that tend to buy Apple products. I’m surprised they didn’t think about it till now.

I am hoping this will be extended to the Mac line, as repairs can get pretty expensive even for older models.

It depends on the person if this is a good solution to them after two years. It would be dumb to pay for reoccurring AppleCare on an older phone you are ready to upgrade anyway, but it makes since if you are someone who keeps their phone/device for years.

For heavy apple purchasers, a group AppleCare+ covering multiple devices, or a volume discount if you have more than 3 devices under AppleCare would be great as well, hopefully that is considered in the future.

Oh, and I believe AppleCare now is available for AirPods, I don't think it is reoccurring however. I will have to investigate that when it is time to replace them with a newer model (or battery life becomes too short.)

Just to clarify - this requires AppleCare plus to expire, right? And then you can renew? You can’t let your one (or in some cases two) year standard warranty expire and then add AC+?

Good question!! I'm not sure of the answer.

Yes, it requires AppleCare+ to expire. You only have 60 days from purchase to add AppleCare+, after that it cannot be added to the device.

If you pay for it monthly and you miss a payment, you will most likely not be able to add it back unless the specialist on the phone feels nice that day :)
