AppleCare and customized iPhone...

So I originally had a Galaxy Nexus and I came to the realization that Android is just not for me and wanted to go back to iPhone. I did a trade on Craigslist and swapped for a customized blue iPhone 4 with loads of accessories and a little extra cash since the Nexus is a newer phone. As always I purchase a single incident AppleCare plan just incase anything so wrong, but since this iPhone has been modded to a blue case would Apple not accept any exchanges if my phone goes bad even if I were to buy the extra protection? Thanks.

I wasn;t aware one could buy an Apple Care plan on a used phone... Was it purchased (from the retailer) within the last 30 days?
