If I am upgrading from an 8GB to 16GB can I transfer the applecare or is it now locked in to that particular phone? Thanks for any help.

Solved on apple support forum. For anyone else wondering the same thing here is the answer I got.
The Applecare is tied to the phone you bought it for. And can travel with that phone. So you would need to get a new Apple Care plan.

What you could do is if you sell the 8GB included in the sell price some of what the APP was worth. As the APP does become a big perk.

You can call Apple and inquire about how to transfer APP to someone else's name if needed but it is tied to the 8GB device.

Check out APP FAQ http://www.apple.com/support/products/faqs.html

Unfortunately not - the serial number of the AppleCare is tied to the phone. In addition, there is no upgrade program available - as far as Apple is concerned, it is a new phone.

Can you do this? I have never used the Applecare before.

Yes. "This plan extends your service coverage to two years from the date of your iPhone purchase. The plan must be purchased while your iPhone is still under its original one-year warranty. Service coverage may be subject to certain restrictions."

Cool, thanks!
