AppleCare+ and over 60 days?

I have just received an Apple Watch SS that I won in a competition at work but it shows that it was purchased end of May when I have linked it to my iCloud account.
Even though it's just opened I'm unable to purchase AC+ because it was purchased over sixty days ago.
Has anyone managed to convince the AppleCare team to add it to their device in circumstances similar to mine?

I haven’t done it myself, but I would simply call apple and explain the situation. My guess is that it would not be a problem. 1 (800) MYAPPLE
