Hi,
I need some advice on whether I should buy Applecare before taking my iMac in for a repair to the freezing issue? I bought it in August just after release and intend to buy Applecare once later once the warranty is about to expire but I wondered if having it repaired under the original 12 month warranty has any effect on my ability to buy Applecare later.

Also, is it worth buying Pro Care to get a speedier repair?
Cheers,
Craig.

No and no. You can buy AppleCare at anytime during the first 12 months of ownership regardless of any warranty issues you may have had. ProCare is a rip off, IMO.

rdowns, what do you mean by ProCare is a ripoff? Just wondering :p

So the Applecare doesn't add any extra repair criteria onto the existing 12-month repair period? So basically, there's no real benefit of ordering Applecare right away, instead of waiting 'til my original's about to expire, then buying Applecare?

free telephone support stops after 90 days under the basic warranty but if you buy applecare you get telephone support for the rest of year one.....that's probably the main benefit of getting Applecare right away versus waiting
