Applecare - can I buy it later?

Looked at the Apple site but it doesn't have much info. My (in transit) iMac has a 1-year warranty. Can I buy AppleCare after that first year is up? Does that give me 2 more years of cover, or the full three years from there?

Or did I have to buy it at the same time as the iMac?

You can buy it at anytime during the 1 year warranty period.

It is another 2 years of cover. Not another 3 years.
