There is a firm rule that "AppleCare+ must be purchased together with your new iPhone", but for many people then it wasn't offered as an option through their carrier or your retailer may not offer it (Best Buy). But after speaking with several people at Apple Customer Care then someone confirmed with me today that there is an unofficial way of getting AppleCare+ post purchase.

I was told that all you need to do is bring your new iPhone to the Apple Store to have a genius confirm its undamaged and they'll be able to sell it. So this is good news for those of us that dont want to cancel our preorders.

And for those who don't know what the new AppleCare+ is then read about it here. AppleCare+ Info
"AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone1 and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $49 service fee."

Also, Squaretrade just added the 4S if you want your warranty through them. They dont have the "2 times" restriction and if you use coupon code: WIZZARD25 then you can get it for $93.
