I recently saw a few Macbook Pros for sale and the guy selling it had provided serial numbers. When I put one in the Apple site to see the warranty, it said: "Our records indicate that your product is covered for service and telephone support under the AppleCare Protection Plan which is estimated to expire on June 04, 2012."

I thought Applecare only covered up to 3 years. Even if they just bought it, shouldn't it expire in 2011?

Any insight or explanation would be greatly appreciated; thanks in advance!

PM me your serial number - don't post it in public and I'll check it out.

Yes, AC expires 3 years from the date of purchase, it's 2 additional years of coverage for computers. My only explanation is the MobileMe guy got transferred to the AC group. ;)

It may be that certain government laws where the systems were purchased and forces Apple to offer a greater coverage than normal. This is just a guess.

I think some people misinterpret the 3-year AppleCare as an extension of 3-years oppose to the correct extension to 3-years.

I understand the 3 year Applecare warranty. I am just confused because on the site, it states that that particular serial number is covered until 2012 (which would make the warranty 4 years opposed to the regular 3 years it's supposed to be).

So you're saying you checked the serial number and it gave you til 2012? Is the seller an authorized reseller?

I am unsure about the seller being an authorized reseller. But yes, the Apple site where I checked the serial number states that it's covered until 2012. That's the part I am confused about because regardless of whether he's listing the right serial number, I am unsure about why the said Macbook Pro would be covered for 4 years.
