I have 8 days left to buy AC+ on my new Mac mini M4. I have young kids and am usually an AC+ devotee (I’ve had a broken iPad mini 6 replaced and Apple Watch battery replacement so I’ve benefitted from it!) but I can’t see how it makes sense for a Mac Mini, which has no screen or battery. In the UK, the excess fees are £79 for external enclosure damage and £229 for ALL OTHER accidental damage (water spillages, component failure out of warranty etc). The latter seems a huge amount. Combined with the cost of the AC+ (£99/3 years or £34.99/year) that’s over half the value of the item if you have Education discount as I fortunately do.

Am I missing something, or does it make very little sense to buy AC+ for a Mac mini M4 with such a high excess?

Waste of $$$.
Minis are perhaps the most reliable of all Macs.
(probably the Studio is in there, also)

I wouldn’t bother. In my opinion AppleCare+ is only really worth it if accidental damage is likely. The Mac Mini is unlikely to be damaged accidentally, and it doesn’t have a battery to replace either so I can’t see how the average person would ever come out ahead (or even) buying AppleCare+ for it.

Agreed! I have AC+ for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. I consider it unnecessary for my Mac mini, HomePod Mini and Apple TV, which never move, let alone leave the house.

Desktops don't have the level of "abuse" as mobile devices, and so AC+ isn't needed. My studio is still within the windows, but I've chosen not to get it.

Thanks for your replies, I see exactly where you’re coming from.

What baffles me the most is that the excess/deductible is £229 for anything other than enclosure damage, so were a major catastrophe to occur (say my kids yanks out the cables and damages the ports, or liquid damage) it would cost me fully half the price of a replacement anyway, even with the AC+!

I guess Apple is trying to keep it simple with the same AC+ terms for all macs, but where £229 is a small fraction of a Mac studio or MacBook cost, it really makes no sense for a Mini which can be bought new for £500.
