I just got the 11 pro and usually, always get AppleCare. In the past when I upgrade every year I usually get a pro-rated refund, but now with the monthly option will it work the same way? So I only need to pay $10 a month for 10 months, and can just cancel it? Or do they lock you in somehow that you need to pay the cost of 2 years no matter what?

You can continue paying the monthly to extend it or cancel it if you decide not to use it. You will not get a refund because you're paying it monthly for coverage similar to subscription billing (can't re-enrolled after cancelled).

Let me clarify. The pro-rated refund is when you pay it in full(24 months). Prior to this, there was never an option for monthly, so yes I'm aware if I sign up for the monthly cost, that will never be refunded. Same idea, different execution. So being able to cancel anytime is the main strong point in regards to yearly upgrade.

You can cancel at any time.
