Hi all

With the recent AppleCare warranty changes allowing devices up to 4 years old to be added, I was wondering, would it be possible for me to purchase a used MacBook Pro (that is less than 4 years old) and then add AppleCare onto it (provided it passes all the diagnostic checks etc). Or does Apple require original proof of purchase for the MacBook Pro?

Thanks!

I can tell you from my experience that a used MacBook Pro M1 Max under 4 years old (date put into service based on serial number; most likely known because previous owner had signed into Apple Account) purchased on eBay was eligible for AppleCare One, although I chose not to take advantage of it.

Thanks, so just to double check, you bought a used M1 Max MacBook Pro and at the time of purchase, it didn't have AppleCare, but it was eligible for AppleCare one warranty cover?

Yes and no. I bought the MBP on eBay before AppleCare One existed. The MBP had no active AppleCare at the time. When AC1 went live, I checked my eligible devices and the MBP was eligible.

I have a M1 MBA that first went into service in 2022, that I purchased used. It did not have AppleCare on it, but when I switched my other devices to AppleCare One, it allowed me to add the MBA too.
