Considering apple care plus that includes theft and loss. Wondering if I should subscribe or lump sum it. I upgrade about every 2-3 years now instead of every 1 year.
I belive you are correct on monthly, fixed term you can transfer, sorry for early reply and now edited. It is my understanding, that the monthly AppleCare is nontransferable should you sell your phone to another person.
My remarks were U.S. based.I belive you are correct on monrhly, fixed term you can transfer, sorry for early reply and now edited
One part I don't understand is when is linked to Apple ID, I was under impression everything is linked to that when it comes to apple, only asking for future referenceMy remarks were U.S. based.
If you pay monthly or annually
If you make monthly or annual payments* for your AppleCare plan, and your plan is already linked to an Apple ID, then it can't be transferred to a new owner.
Transfer your AppleCare plan - Apple Support
If you sell or give away your device, you might be able to transfer your AppleCare plan to the new owner.support.apple.com

With AC+, you are given the option as to whether or not you want to specifically link with the Apple ID. If done, it helps prevent coverage from lapsing as could be the case when an expired card in normal Apple account activity. If not used, the coverage stays with the device without further stipulation, as far as I am aware. One part I don't understand is when is linked to Apple ID, I was under impression everything is linked to that when it comes to apple, only asking for future reference
That is a good point. You are correct. If buying on MR, I wouldn't personally worry about it as I have found the people here to be the exception with quality and service. If bought elsewhere, I would be rolling the dice.I would be cautious of buying a used phone advertised as including AppleCare. Unless the person transfers it to you in person, nothing stops them from canceling and getting a pro rated refund. I would venture to say most people just see it includes AppleCare and do not think twice about it needing to be transferred.
I just assume AppleCare doesn’t exist when buying used devices and take extra care when dealing with those devices. In my mind, AppleCare only belongs to brand new devices bought from Apple or carriers.I would be cautious of buying a used phone advertised as including AppleCare. I don't buy AppleCare for phones or watches, but on Mac I buy it as a lump sum. I hate monthly payments.
You can do a lump sum and then switch to monthly after two years.Monthly, so that I can have it on my phone when it gets past 2 years
I've always gotten it for laptops. Could spill something on them at a desk, drop them on the floor, etc. And I will keep them for longer than a phone, and with the MacBook Pro, it's twice as expensive as the iPhone but same cost for AppleCare. I'd feel better about not having it for the iPhone than MBP.Interesting. I never buy it for my Mac because it's on a desk, table, or in a back pack. Knock on wood, but I have never dropped a laptop.
Oh darn, I didn't know that and was under the impression it wasn't possible. You can do a lump sum and then switch to monthly after two years.
