You haven't paid for it yet so why would they refund it?
I have been paying for it for the last 12 months, no ?
You've paid for a year of it, not 2.
So will we be getting the unused portion back?
I think that with the iUP plan you are paying monthly (that's with the applecare+) so technically you haven't paid the additional 1 year yet. So I don't think they can even refund you when in fact you haven't even paid for 1 year remaining. So will we be getting the unused portion back?
There are usually no refunds on insurance plans just because you haven't had a need to use them.
Bad info you can cancel AppleCare+ anytime and you are refunded the remaining dollar amount based on months left. There are usually no refunds on insurance plans just because you haven't had a need to use them.
Not true. I have refunded apple care three times now. However in this case you have only paid for one year to this point and did not buy two years upfront like is usually done. Short answer for this situation will be no refund issued

Not true.
I based my not true comment on buying apple care outright (which is how I buy it.) I will call apple when my new phone arrived and get one years worth of apple care refunded to me.
