My white macbook I bought last August has got the staining on the touchpad/palm area. I only have the standard warranty with it so rang Applecare up who said I have to pay £35 up front in case its a software problem??!?!?! I told them its fine, its just the case thats discoloured and he said "even so we can't rule out a software issue!"

Is this standard practice for Apple? I know they say they will refund it but come on its a bit stupid isn't it!
Also, can you drop you MacBook in at an Apple Store and get them to replace the case while you wait or does it have to get sent away?
