I'm planning to get a new Macbook Pro within the next couple of months, when the Haswell update comes out. One of the questions I'm thinking about is whether I want to get AppleCare. Now, I know that the computers already come with a 1 year warranty so AppleCare would only give a 2 year additional extension. However, my Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card has a warranty extension policy where they will give an extra year of warranty protection under the same terms as your manufacturers' warranty. There are other cards which have similar policies. Do any of you have experience with using credit cards' warranty extension policies alongside AppleCare for older hardware? With AppleCare + the warranty extension it would give me 4 years of warranty coverage on my computer which would make AppleCare a much better deal.

Thanks!

Credit Card extended warranty coverages tend to cover the product from its base warranty and not from the end of the extended service contract. So with AppleCare you would still only have 3 years of coverage.

Another note is if you get a refurbished product, then you won't have coverage with most (if not all) of the credit card extended warranties.

It's your call whether you want 2 or 3 years of coverage. And remember AppleCare also extends phone support and also that you don't have to deal with a third party (credit card company) if your Mac needs a repair.

Only you can decide if the third year of coverage is worth it for the Mac you buy.

That's somewhat of a bummer. That means that paying $239 for AppleCare (in edu store) only gets 1 additional year of coverage, and anything past the 1st year would force me to deal with non-Apple folks.

Remember it's only non Apple folk if you use the credit card extended warranty.

Maybe your wording is just off but there's no reason to deal with non-Apple warranty support if you buy Applecare. Why would you use the Sapphire's warranty extension if you have Applecare?

If you want feedback on the Sapphire's warranty extension you'll have better luck with a broader search versus just asking on Macrumors.
