Which one do you suggest getting? AppleCare or carrier insurance? Pros? Cons? Thanks.

Always AppleCare+. You cannot afford to NOT have it with the price of these phones and the costs of warranty (or out-of-warranty exchanges).

I carry both on my phones. I keep the carrier for theft, loss, and out of warranty issues.

I keep AppleCare+ for the first two years to cover incidentals because Apple provides new replacement devices / high quality refurbished devices. Asurion is terrible with the replacement phones.

This^ I've used Verizon's insurance in the past and the Asurion replacements are absolute trash.

I cannot agree more. All the major carriers use Asurion for their mobile warranty.

Sadly, Apple does too now with the introduction of their AppleCare+ Theft and Loss. I think that they only use Asurion for the lost and stolen phones, but I don't know how those are handled. Asurion has a terrible record of sending out horribly "refurbished"phones with third party parts. I bet Apple wouldn't even cover them if they failed. It's the whole reason why I didn't opt for the new AppleCare+ option.

If you have an Apple Store near you, AppleCare will be much more convenient. With the carrier plans, you'll have to mail your phone to them.

I use applecare + with lost and theft. It's easier since I have apple store 10 minutes from me and I can just swap there if something happens.

It is best to self-insure. If you can't do that, AppleCare. Assurion, which is what most carriers use, is not a good option, as far as Apple products are concerned, in my opinion (re: refurbed).

i guess i am in the minority.

i purchased AC+ (loss/theft) for the first time ever with my Xs Max and only because they let you do monthly now

i replaced my 256 X about 4 times in 2018 and every time Asurion sent a brand new unopened device.

the main reason it was always better is because loss and theft were included. even tho AC+ includes it now it still sucks for two reasons
1. you only get TWO incidents that includes loss, theft, cracked screen or anything else outside of hardware issues. that's crap.

2. with AT&T (and i think vzw too) you don't have to pay the $300 replacement cost up front it can be charged to your bill. This isn't something you can do with AC+

Taking a chance with Verizon carrier insurance. Always wondered why I can get applecare+ from Best Buy if I bought the iPhone from them, but cannot get it at the. Verizon store. I live in Florida by the way and we have silly rules. If I bought it from Verizon I would have to bring it into the Apple store to purchase the AppleCare+.

I agree on not using Verizon's insurance, but I just bought Applecare+ through them when I bought my Apple watch.

I've never used carrier insurance but my coworker got a brand new Samsung Galaxy when she dropped it through Verizon. It seems people have had inconsistent experience with carrier insurance and I'm guessing whether you get a banged up refurb or a brand new unit has to do with what they have available at the time.

I buy AppleCare and recently got my iPhone swapped out and the refurb was decent--usually they're excellent. There was a little marring on the silver band but I completely removed it with a polishing cloth so now it's perfect. That wouldn't have been possible on an iPhone of any other color. (I'll buy silver band iPhones as long as Apple sells them.)

I have an Apple Store within walking distance of my home, so it's convenient for me to have service there. If I lived in a area far away from an Apple Store and would have to mail in a device, I might consider coverage at another brick and mortar location like Best Buy or Verizon.

You can buy AppleCare through Apple at any point within the first 60 days, no matter whether you bought from Apple/carrier/Best Buy.

They’ll have you run a diagnostic before allowing you to buy it, but it’s pretty fast/easy.

I think Apple care is better in the US because it covers loss and theft. In the UK it’s only damages so I stick with carrier insurance as it covers everything.

You can even buy it online or over the phone.
