Me and my wife have had a battle on our hands with Apple's warranty policy.

Macbook still with 1 Year Warranty on - No Applecare bought at time of purchase.

So a few day's ago made a call to apple regarding a Graphics issues when plugged into a ACD 20",

what i was expecting :

Apple to give me an address to post it to / or send out a courier to collect so Apple could repair under warranty.

What i got :

Tried to be bullied into buying Applecare for £199 for the pleasure of a man in a van to collect.
or

like it or lump it and go queue up at an Apple Store to get it sent off.

My Story :

As some of you know me and my wife have just had a little baby, so time is short and very busy. Explaining this to Apple made no diference, they just told me to go to the Retail outlet -for me Sheffield is the nearest Apple Store ( 1h30 Min by train) and Authorised Apple Dealer (Nottingham -1 hour by train)

I even offerd to pay for the collection\delivery but they are having none of this, i just got the line "you need to buy Applecare for £199"

Applecare is a good deal - if, you have expensive Mac's /alot of Mac's and keep your Mac's for longer then 2 year's

Applecare is not a good deal if you only have your mac for less then a year -then sell it on ebay to fund the next Mac

Apple's policy of bring the Mac to them to fix is fine- but there is a gap between 1 Year Warranty and 3 year Applecare

Maybe Apple could intro a 1 year Applecare ?

Any Thoughts ?
