Hi. I might sell my Max pro to get a 12 pro Max. The upgrade programme is currently under hubby’s name since Barclaycard refused mine due to my email address.

Anyhoo if I sell it privately and pay off the loan I understand I will be entitled to a refund of the Apple care? If so how does that refund work please? Thanks

You simply call up and speak to the Apple Care team, tell them that you want to cancel Apple care. It'll take you off the upgrade programme and Apple refund the remaining payment to Barclays. Barclays will then use that to reduce what you owe them. If it puts you in credit then they'll refund you the credit amount

Thanks. So obviously once cancelled I guess you owe the remaining balance of the phone and have to pay it within a certain time.

Hope there isn’t a long wait to get the 12 pro Max. Will be going back to an iPhone 7 temporarily. It will be like looking at a postage stamp :)

I'm not sure how long you have to pay it off with Barclays. The only time I've ever done the iUP and then paid off after 12 months I did it all on the same day.

I would pay it off in one day too. But thought the AppleCare transfer money from apple to Barclays would take a while. Then the final figure for me to pay will need to be updated.

when I rang apple they said AC was a required part of iup and if you cancel it would cancel the iup as well. I’d already settled the finance at this point so I don’t know what happens if you try cancelling AC first.

Just settle the finance with barclays - all doable with the automated phone system - then ring AC and they’ll send the money to Barclays who will then pay it into your bank. Whole thing was like next day for me, its really fast.

I have literally just got off the phone to Apple about this.

They said they would refund my £67.50 and send it to Barclays so it will come off my loan if I haven’t paid it off yet or if I had paid the loan off then Barclays would give me the money so because I haven’t paid my loan off yet I’m going to wait for it to go to Barclays and come off my loan then pay off the remaining balance when I get the £400 trade in value from Apple in my bank.

I don’t think they’ll release the £400 if its still enrolled in iup - don’t you have to settle first? Otherwise its not ‘yours’ to trade in

Thanks. Like mentioned above I thought you had to have apple care with the upgrade programme, so surprised you can do it this way round to be honest. I will sell my phone privately then do it all at the same time. If I don’t get the money I want then I will just upgrade as normal and keep my phone for now.

When I went to the Apple store yesterday to pick up my iPhone 12 the person who served me said I had two options I could either give Apple my 11 back and pay the £69 and start a new loan for the 12 or because I only had £260 left on my 11 loan and my 11 was worth £400 I could trade it in to Apple and start a new loan for the 12 then pay off the existing 11 loan with the money once it went in my bank which should take about 5 days.

I would do that but I owe more than apple will give me. Good to hear that’s an option for some though.

Actually have another idea. If Apple will trade in my phone for 560 but i owe 575, will I still be better off because I can claim back the apple care on top doing it this way? Obviously if the apple care refund is an amount worth doing this.

I can’t see that being an issue. There must have been some reason Barclays declined you. It wouldn’t be down to an email address. I’ve used and do use different emails on various credit accounts. Just be warned, an email address wouldn’t cause a rejection.

Hi. The email address did reject me. They said because it didn’t match the one on my Barclaycard they declined it. It was stupid!

Phoned apple up and they said I will get over £100 back for my Apple care at the moment. Happy days.

My Barclaycard and Barclays bank account email address is different to the one for my Barclays Partner Finance. Weird one.

They told me the following day it would be approved now if I tried again since they did something on their system. It was too late by then since I joined on hubby’s. Maybe their systems were playing up that caused it.
