I was always under the impression that you needed to purchase AppleCare for each product. Someone told me yesterday that they bought the $100 AppleCare for their iPhone and it works on their Macbook & iPad. This can't be true right?

What I was told by the Apple store folks... look at the AppleCare invoice... it will reference an Apple product Serial Number. This is the only Apple product that AppleCare applies to.

Not even close.
The $99 applecare plus for the iphone just covers that particular device and only that serial number iphone. No macbook or ipad. Applecare will have to be bought seperate for each one of those devices to have coverage for them also.
There is no 1 applecare covers everything Apple you have.

I believe the Applecare for MBP is closer to $300 than it is $100. A friend bought the 15" MBPr and it cost him another $399 for Applecare+.
