I bought the basic one for my 88 year old mother so she can watch streaming content. Her current old iPad can't run a few key apps at this point. Age for everything is tough.

This is the best value in technology right now, in my opinion. But this model does have limitations—most importantly for me, it only comes with 6gb of ram. For people who don’t multitask, this is likely not a problem. But I do, and I noticed the crashes and refreshes that happen.

Apple's lowest cost devices really shine a spotlight on the absurdity of their storage upgrade pricing. It costs more to go from 128GB to 512GB of storage than the entire 128GB iPad costs.

Nothing new about this pricing structure, but as someone who benefited from the pricing (especially on sale) of the base iPad and M4 Mac mini, I'm grateful to those who subsidize the low end by paying more for the higher ends.

While I wish that USB-C would have been given a more rugged connector, it's too late. And here's hoping that the Apple Intelligence referenced in your "created by" signature will improve at creating.

If apple had made lightning available to other companies for a fee, (not just giving it away freely) could that have helped apple themselves to develop a more robust, newer successor version of lightning with more pins, or something to compete more with USBC so that USBC itself would have had marketplace competition or...

I'm not sure. A quick web search seems to indicate iPad air having a more full featured 5gbps port (USB 3), while the basic entry level iPad port is still 480mbps USB 2.
Yep, someone who regularly transfers files to their iPad via USB wouldn't be as happy with the discounted iPad model, but neither the iPad nor the Air use Lightning which is what the "created by Apple Intelligence" question was about, hehe.

It's $50 off for the magic keyboard folio as well. I love that setup, moreso than the magic keyboard case for the iPad pro.
