Apple is expanding availability of its new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max to several countries that use type G plugs. The new variant of the adapter features a three-prong folding design that is distinct from the initial two-prong versions that launched in September alongside the iPhone 17 models.

The new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter design is available for purchase in the UK, Ireland, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia.

Apple previously launched the Dynamic Power Adapter in the U.S., Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, Taiwan, and the Philippines.

The 40W Dynamic Power Adapter is the same size as Apple's 20W charger, but it is able to deliver 40W for faster charging. It also provides up to 60W in short bursts to speed up charging even further.

In the United States, the Dynamic Power Adapter is priced at $39, but prices vary in other countries.

Maybe head-on, but it looks significantly more cubic and so less comfortable to stick in a coat pocket.

The progs fold, are you talking about the 40w adapter pictured above?
No, I mean the dual-port (USB-C) adapter Apple also sells in the UK. In the US, it’s sized a lot closer to the one-port 20W adapter. In tne UK, it protrudes from the wall more like the oldest AirPort Express, the prongs are fixed in position, but the plug head can be removed and swapped for another from the world travel kit or whatever it’s called, or even an extension cable.

It’s amusing how many variants of adapter Apple produces these days.

40W up to 60W USB-C adaptor

For the US = chunkier, but still pocketable and nice-looking.
Cable direction: Downwards ❤️
Pins: Foldable ❤️

For the UK = looks a bit chunkier/less comfortable for carrying in a pocket.

Dual-port 35W adapter

Updated model for the US = compact and nice-looking.
Cable direction: Downwards ❤️
Pins: Foldable ❤️

Current model for the UK = retro (mid-2000s) and a bit ugly.
Cable direction: Away from wall 🤢
Pins: Fixed 🤢 (but swappable for worldwide use ✔️)

20W single-port USB-C adapter

For the US = slim/pocketable, but…

Pins: Fixed? 🤢

For the UK = chunky, but still pocketable. Good for carrying around on long days out in case of emergency.

Is it me or the charger looks like a middle finger?

These seem to get good reviews - I'd like to see some actually test it electrically.

And this with a MagSafe would be great. No cable needed. Actually stick a battery in it too :)

30w - Dual ports at least.

And the Mu plug

20w - I had an older version of this and it was great - won loads of design awards.

First option looks good for a wall socket under a desk. Not generally a fan of cables thatcome out of the top of a plug, though.

Has Mu rebuilt its reputation yet? I haven’t even though about it since it messed around with one of its kickstarters and downgraded what people received; I got an ugly bright pink 20W charger from it, not what I ordered. Such a shame because the folded dimensions of its plugs were brilliantly practical. (Edit: Seems Made in Mind went into administration in 2021.)

Your county's prongs are ridiculous. Nothing can be sleek with those things.

You can get a 65w continuous Anker for the price of this Apple iCharge Hybrid that might deliver 60w on a good day.
There wouldn’t be a noticeable difference in practice. Apple’s charger steps down at the same time the devices it’s made for draw less power. So, a charger being 65w doesn’t mean much with the phone is asking for 40 or less.

YES YES YES!!!!! Thank you Apple!

OK, It's a bit chunkier than the 20W GOAT UK adapter, but I'll take it!

That’s one chonky boy

Yeah, it looks like maybe an extra 10mm or so in depth compared to the UK 20W adapter, which measures about 49 × 45 × 30 mm deep.

If anyone can find (or measure) the exact dimensions of the new 40W dynamic adapter, please post! It's annoying that Apple don't seem to have this information on the product page!

Size, and good design, is really what I'm looking for here.

Is the 65W Anker smaller and lighter than the Apple version? And no folding pins, I'm assuming?

A problem with that design is that you might run into issues with sockets that have limited clearance around them. The Apple design is great because it fits within the profile of a standard UK plug, so will fit even in tight spaces.
