Today we're tracking the return of an all-time low price on Apple's AirTag 4-Pack, which has hit $69.99 on Amazon, down from $99.00. The AirTag 4-Pack was priced at $72.99 for most of December, so this is the first time we've seen it return to its record low price in a few weeks.

Not anymore like you said with AirTags 2 coming
What’s not anymore? I can’t see anything AirTag 2 could have that wouldn’t make me want to upgrade. Is it going to have faster tracking or maybe smaller? Maybe a rechargeable battery but changing a coin cell once a year doesn’t bother me.

One minor improvement would be to improve the battery contacts, so you don't have to avoid the baby-proofed batteries. It's a small annoyance because I can't always find the right ones at the store, so I have to order and stock them. I'm currently using three of these for myself, plus three for my family members, and I could probably use more; so battery management is more than zero annoying.

I still think this will still be good for a large percentage of people.

Even if there are improvements with AirTag 2, there’s a still a market for the previous generation. Consumers have a currently used previous generations of IPhones, AirPods, Apple TVs, iPads, etc.

And AirTags 2 release is reportedly more that a few months away, if you need something now, this is a good deal.

Being able to quickly key emphasis on quickly and reliable sound these from preferably more than 10’ away would make the next gen a major improvement. Also if I park my car in the street and leave a backpack in my car would be super nice if my neighbors weren’t getting alerted to possible stalker outside.

I would be annoyed if I lived somewhere that didn’t have a good supply of batteries. It’s a non issue for me because I have Walmart and Amazon with an endless supply. I suspect the new version will be rechargeable with the Apple Watch charger so disposable batteries will be a thing of the past.

I understand that people want what they want. And you want a rechargeable battery. But… this is the only product from Apple that has an (easily) user-removable battery. And so many people are like: Nah, **** that! 😂

I actually went to a second-hand store the other day specifically to look for and buy an Apple Wireless Keyboard (A1314) from 2011 (that one that uses AA batteries). I found and bought it. It’s in great condition. And all I needed to do was put two AA batteries in it. I wish more things nowadays still had (easily) user-removable batteries.

Also: It’s more than just Walmart or Amazon. You can find a CR2032 battery at tons of places. I can walk down the street to my nearest drug store and grab one (or a pack of two or four).

Actually, my car key fob battery is low, so I’ll go to my nearest electronics store later on Saturday and buy a four pack.

This must be AirTag insider lingo: „Being able to quickly key emphasis on quickly and reliable sound these from preferably more than 10’ away“

I wouldn’t say a rechargeable battery is a want of mine, but if the battery life was just as long and it was rechargeable, I would call that a plus.

The reason why I say it will be rechargeable is because disposable batteries are an environmental disaster. They go straight to the landfill and yeah, that’s just not great.

Easily user-removable batteries can help prevent otherwise good products from ending up as e-waste.

In my above example, earlier this week I bought a second-hand Apple Wireless Keyboard from 2011 and put two (rechargeable) AA batteries in it.

I also have another Apple Wireless Keyboard from 2009 I bought second-hand a few months ago that now has two rechargeable AA batteries in it as well.

And that’s great. I was able to buy these old products that still functioned perfectly-fine after quickly popping-in a standard battery type that can be found in countless stores all around the world.

Good luck getting the battery replaced on a 13/15 year old keyboard if it has an old, inaccessible, proprietary battery.

The real downside to buying from anywhere but Apple for AirTags is that you don't get free engraving.

I actually really love my AirTags being engraved... But, $70 is definitely a good price.

Totally agree with the proprietary batteries. It would be nice if there was a standard for rechargeable batteries . We have some standards like the 2170 and 4680 cells but nothing for a flat battery.

In this scenario, would that happen? I think it waits until the AirTag is seen moving with you for a bit before it triggers any alerts. At least that’s my understanding of how it is supposed to work.
