The full text of the announcement:
The Apple Developer Forums are a great place to connect with fellow developers and Apple engineers as you give and receive help on development topics. And now, it's easier to find and keep track of content you're interested in. Take advantage of enhanced search and a new feature that monitors threads for you and sends you an email each time there's a reply.
A list of supported search queries and more details can be found on Apple's website.

Apple's Developer Forums are a place for those who develop apps for Apple software platforms to ask questions and share comments on a variety of development topics with fellow developers and Apple engineers working for the company.

That’s brilliant. Wonderful ways to connect with the developers.
I think you misunderstood the article. It is talking about a dedicated (Developer) forum that will now have better search functions and the ability to be notified when someone responds to your (developer) post. This really has nothing to do with Joe and Jill Sixpack.

The Developer forum is not a place to hang out (like here) and share life stories with developers.

Well they will be able to share the ideas together and collaborate.

if only they featured actual responses and help. i have questions from 5 years ago with 0 replies.

also, their last update removed the ability to reply to replies, making replies very confusing. but since there are no replies in the first place i guess it is not a priority.

Apple developer forums are a complete waste of time. Hardly any activity, never get an answer from them.

the whole world and its brother use stackoverflow. Amazing website, great answers and fast.
It could get better, also there can be many competitors, Stackoverflow is not the only solution, indeed I find most of my problem solutions on individual develeopers forums, not on Stack

This has existed for decades, they're simply improving the search. Their forums leave much to be desired, and I find more activity on other sites and boards
Lets be truthful here, Apple search is the worst of the worst across the board. Spotlight what a joke, rare that it finds what I need. I know, I know, I'm using it wrong!

Apple forums, the only way to navigate is to use Google. What a joke. Oh and recently all Apple forum posts from years ago have started showing up as new.

You'd think that a company that wants to be in the AR/AV space and prides itself on machine learning, would at least have decent search algorithms. But no, it is only the marketing that matters.

One of the reasons Siri is so bad is Apple's search algorithms.
